The MRC/Wits-Agincourt Research Unit heartily congratulates Dr Ryan Wagner on receiving the Dr Charles Kyeyune Memorial Prize at Wits University’s Faculty of Health Sciences’ 2022 Awards Ceremony on 20 April.
Ryan, who recently completed his MBBCH degree at Wits University, received this award for displaying leadership, commitment, caring for patients, teamwork, and extending himself beyond the set requirements, together with consistency in performance throughout the Integrated Primary Care (IPC) block, and a block mark greater than 70%. The prize honours students who epitomise these values of Dr Charles Kyeyune, after whom it is named. Dr Charles Kyeyune, who passed away in 2007, was a member of the Wits community and highly esteemed as a District Family Physician for Bophirima District (Vryburg region) in the North West Province, and lecturer in the Division of Rural Health in the Wits Faculty of Health Sciences. Dr Kyeyune supervised IPC students doing rotations at Taung Hospital in the North-West Province and earned the regard of students as a role model and an inspiring mentor, developing an approach that has been used to train other supervisors. Awarding this prize to Ryan is a fitting tribute to Dr Kyeyune, acknowledging mutual qualities of academic excellence, fostering strong interpersonal relationships, and dedication to the development of others.
Well done on this achievement, Ryan!
