Passing of Prof Peter Byass, MRC/Wits-Agincourt Unit collaborator and friend

A colleague and a dear friend to many in the MRC/Wits-Agincourt Unit, Prof Peter Byass sadly passed away unexpectedly on the 16th August 2020 at his home in the UK. We all feel heartsore for his wife, Margaret and their three sons and their families. Not only did Peter work with the unit for over 20 years on Verbal Autopsy, but he quietly influenced many staff members lives, guiding them through degrees, research grant applications and paper writing. He was a world leader in public health through his work with the INDEPTH Network and the WHO. His untimely passing is indeed a tragedy that has left us all bereft.

For a more detailed outline of all of Peter’s achievements, here is a link to the obituary Umea University,in Sweden has on their site.
