Carolyn Audet from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Institute for Global Health, both made a verbal presentation and had a poster at the AIDS 2016 Conference.  Her presentation and poster focussed on her work with  Sizzy Ngobeni and Ryan  Wagner on traditional healers in the MRC/Wits-Agincourt Unit research site.  Findings included that engagement with healers may need to focus on healer’s ability to both appreciate and subsequently advertise their own survival rates to gain entry into the traditional system, and given high number of lifetime exposure to patient’s blood, introduction of sterile gloves is likely to improve the occupational safety of practicing traditional medicine.
